The rapid changes that one can see in today’s society not only promote but also demand from people their continuous self-development and obedience to confront the social strain. Among the various forms of identity the most common are the guidelines distinguishing the individuals of two kinds, those, obeying every word of command and those, willing not to conform to harsh reality.
The natural tension between the desire to conform to social expectations, including age and motivation to maintain their own individuality, leads to inner conflicts and, consequently, to the crises of identity which are aggravated by unsustainable external reference points.
The image of both males and females, in each phase of their development, along with a professional activity includes the following categories: stability, storage and transfer experience, confidence (generally in women) and desire to be a model to follow (generally for men).
There are several age approaches to development, but the psychological theory of Erik Erikson offers one of the most holistic approaches to growth and human development, and includes behavioural and social, spiritual and somatic components (Stevens, 1983). In accordance with Erickson's model, the adolescence is considered as the most sensitive phase in the cycle of gradual growth (Erikson, 1959); moreover, the psychoanalyst emphasizes eight stages of adolescence, including the development of crises that must be successfully resolved.
The point is this very stage of life is characterized by that people achieve peak performance in nonconformity. All in all, later on it is possible to observe a step-by-step change of such a tendency, leading to people’s intention to suspend their strikes against mass character syndrome.
To conclude, it is worth mentioning that there will always be people who long for standing out as individuals; on the other hand, after continuous contemplation and inner transformation, only a few will stay the same in the end.
Apart from it, many are not even eager to try what it is like to be an individual. As a result, it is possible to expect that the conformists will obviously outnumber the nonconformists, since the groups’ admirers appear to be more resistant to different obstacles.
